George Botanical Gardens

When visiting George on the Garden Route of South Africa a visit to the George Botanical Gardens should be on you list of places to see. The garden was started in 1997 by a group of volunteers who were concerned about the diminishing indigenous flora of the area. Many flowering plants from the Garden Route and inland Southern Cape, many of which area rarely seen are to be found here. A wide variety of birds, insects and small animals can be sighted. A variety of exciting botanical & environmentally resources, courses & events are offered. Guided tours of the herbarium and garden can be booked. While walking in the gardens you have magnificent views of the George and Cradock peaks of the Outeniqua Mountain. Among the many species of wide plants and flowers are the Erica’s, Protea’s Restio’s and Succulents off the Karoo
