George Botanical Gardens Hartenbos, February 20, 2009 When visiting George on the Garden Route of South Africa a visit to the George Botanical Gardens should be on you list of places to see. The garden was started in 1997 by a group of volunteers who were concerned about the diminishing indigenous flora of the area. Many flowering plants from the Garden Route and inland Southern Cape, many of which area rarely seen are to be found here. A wide variety of birds, insects and small animals can be sighted. A variety of exciting botanical & environmentally resources, courses & events are offered. Guided tours of the herbarium and garden can be booked. While walking in the gardens you have magnificent views of the George and Cradock peaks of the Outeniqua Mountain. Among the many species of wide plants and flowers are the Erica’s, Protea’s Restio’s and Succulents off the Karoo
One of the items that should be on your list of thing to do and experience when in Mossel Bay in the Garden Route of South Africa, should be a trip on the Romonza. The Romonza is a licensed passenger boat for whale watching, sunset cruises, seal island cruises and educational and private cruises. Through out the trip there is running commentary. Just do not forget you camera! Whales which are the greatest mammals on earth are sighted in the Mossel Bay area regularly from June to November.
